Luciano Spalletti hails Sandro Tonali and Samuele Ricci after historic win v France

Italy had never won at the Parc des Princes before and today, they picked up a win over France in the UEFA Nations League.

While they did concede the fastest goal in Azzurri history through Bradley Barcola, goals from Federico Dimarco, Davide Frattesi and Jack Raspadori made sure that Luciano Spalletti’s side grabbed a huge win, silencing some critics after the disappointing showings at EURO 2024.

The game saw Sandro Tonali return to action for Italy and Samuele Ricci also starred in midfield. After the tie, Spalletti spoke at the press conference about he had special praise for both.

He said (via TMW): “Ricci and Tonali have shown that they are players of substance and level. We already knew about Tonali, while Ricci, who has changed his position compared to how he played against Torino, has never been afraid, he has shown that he has values that can make him international level. I always feel the same, I have lived through a lot.”

He spoke further about the game and suggested the need to stay humble despite the win.

“I am pleased for the Italians, having given that disappointment to a people and a nation that cares about football becomes a suffering. Tonight I am happy because we are all a little relieved, now we have the chance to continue on this path because we have seen that we have potential. Remaining humble and staying as low as possible.”

Riccardo Calafiori seemed to have picked up a knock during the game and Spalletti was asked about it and he responded:

“Calafiori needs to be evaluated, but with our good doctors there is a chance of recovering him.”
