Liverpool may sign “one or two midfielders” across the winter and summer transfer windows this year as Jürgen Klopp looks to revamp his options in the middle of the park at Anfield, Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has told GiveMeSport.
The Reds currently have six players whose contracts are set to expire this summer, four of which play in midfield.
Liverpool transfer news – Midfielder
According to Marca, Real Madrid are confident of signing Liverpool target Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund despite the Reds making the England man their top target for the upcoming summer transfer window.
However, it has been reported that the Stourbridge star’s father Mark would like the teenager to make the move to Merseyside at the end of the season, something in which could have a huge impact on the 19-year-old’s decision.
Sheth has also told GiveMeSport that Bellingham could push for a move to Anfield if he so chooses, which could enable the Reds to get him for a cheaper fee if he runs his contract down with the Bundesliga side.
And the Sky Sports man has also suggested that the club could look to add more additions in the middle of the park alongside Bellingham.
What has Sheth said about Liverpool?
When asked if Liverpool could look to add more midfielders to the squad on top of Bellingham, Sheth told GiveMeSport: “Potentially, I think they’re looking to bring in one or two midfielders.
“We’ve seen the profile of midfielders that Liverpool have got and we’ve spoken about it before.
“There’s a batch of them who are in their early 30s or approaching 30, and then there’s a batch of them who are really young who are teenagers or are in their early 20s.
“Then you’ve got Naby Keïta, whose future looks uncertain, to say the least, who’s in his peak years between 26 and 28 years old. I just think Liverpool will want to bring in one or two.
“They are scouring the market, make no mistake about it.”
What midfielders could Liverpool look to sign?
According to the Sunday Mirror, Liverpool are considering a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers and Portugal’s Rúben Neves, who currently has just 18 months remaining on his £58k-per-week contract at Molineux, suggesting that this month could be Wolves’ last opportunity to secure an astronomical transfer fee for their captain.
The Reds are also weighing up a potential move for Neves’ midfielder partner Matheus Nunes, who only signed for the West Midlands outfit in August for a then club-record fee of £38m, with The Telegraph stating a bid worth £44m could be on the cards this summer.
Meanwhile, The Athletic has reported that Klopp’s side are huge admirers of Brighton & Hove Albion star Moisés Caicedo but his £70m asking price means that the club can’t get a deal over the line, with Chelsea seemingly leading the race for the Ecuador star’s signature, as per CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.
Therefore, whilst Bellingham seems to remain the club’s top target, Liverpool have many options who they could recruit in the middle of the park, next to the England superstar.
