The Athletic reports that Liverpool are exploring a move for RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.
Liverpool met with the representatives of the Hungarian this week to discuss a potential transfer this summer. However, a potential deal will be complicated to complete and within Liverpool, there is acceptance that it will be difficult to finalise a deal.
One of the reasons is that Szoboszlai has a release clause worth €70m in his contract that expires at some point mid-way through the summer. A move for the 22-year-old would require a significant amount of money to be completed, it is unlikely that Liverpool have this type of money.
Newcastle have previously shown strong interest in Szoboszlai, but unless a club pays the release clause before the expiry date, the Hungarian is unlikely to leave the club this summer due to the likely departure of Joško Gvardiol to Manchester City.
Leipzig are currently working on a deal for Liverpool midfielder Fabio Carvalho, and the club sees Carvalho as the successor to either Dani Olmo or Szoboszlai if one of them were to leave the club in 2024.
