Lionel Messi returning to Barcelona is still viable, Barcelona’s economic vice president Eduard Romeu has admitted.
Messi left Barcelona for PSG in 2021 after the La Liga club were unable to renew his deal due to ongoing financial trouble.
Asked if the club could now afford to bring their former captain back to Camp Nou, Romeu told Catalunya Radio: “It would be possible financially because if he returned, it would be as a free agent. But it’s a decision that has to be made by the coaching staff and the player. It doesn’t correspond to me [to make those decisions], but it would be viable.”
The former Blaugrana captain will be out of contract with PSG at the end of the current season.
Romeu went to to defend the need for the activation of the various levers that have been carried out in recent months: “We had to find the point of balance, which was very weak, but we had to be brave”.
