Having been sentenced by the Court of Arbitration for Sport to pay a fee to Sporting CP over the transfer of Rafael Leão, Lille have now struck an agreement with both the Portuguese outfit and the forward’s current club, AC Milan, according to RMC Sport tonight.
The dispute over his free transfer in 2018 had seen the forward and Les Dogues sentenced to pay over €20m (originally €16.5m, which grew with interest) in compensation for the Portuguese international, who moved on to the Rossoneri after one season in the north of France.
With Leão now extending his contract until 2028 with a significant wage rise, Lille have agreed to pay Sporting CP €19.6m, with the remaining €1m being left to the player. Milan will reimburse 90% of the fee Lille are paying, with the Ligue 1 outfit also being guaranteed a share of the profit on a future transfer – €15m, should he leave for his release clause of €100m.
Although absent from yesterday’s Champions League semi-final clash against Inter, the wide man has been one of the Rossoneri’s standout performers over the past few seasons – notably playing a key role in their title-winning campaign last season. This year, he has 13 goals and 13 assists in all competitions.
