After a season where Lille OSC were spoiled for choice at left-back, the position has overnight become a priority for the club to reinforce. Mitchell Bakker has returned to his parent club, Atalanta, Ismaily left after being unable to agree on a contract extension, and Gabriel Gudmundsson has been sold to Leeds United.
These sudden departures have left Les Dogues with only one recognised left-back in the squad, Vincent Burlet (19), a Belgian youth international who had a convincing season on loan with Le Mans, in the third tier of French football, the semi-professional Championnat National.
It’s evident that Lille need to strengthen, and the club have been active in trying to address this weakness. AZ Alkmaar’s David Möller Wolfe (23) remains the club’s priority, with the Norwegian international impressing this season with the Dutch side. However, Lille face competition from multiple clubs.
La Voix du Nord reports that in Ligue 1, Stade Rennais are reportedly considering a move following the departure of Adrien Truffert (23) to AFC Bournemouth, while Premier League sides are also in the market for the fullback. A transfer could cost any interested party a minimum of €12m.
