Leeds Make Late Move to Sign ‘Phenomenal’ Leicester Forward

Leeds United have launched a late move to sign Leicester City forward Bilal El Khannouss before the transfer deadline on Monday, journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed.

The Elland Road side are believed to have intensified their efforts to land the Morocco international in the final two days of the summer window, with Crystal Palace now seemingly out of the race.

Palace were reportedly put off by Leicester’s hefty demands for the ‘phenomenal’ 21-year-old forward, with the Foxes raising El Khannouss’ price tag to £35m.

Leicester are no longer under pressure to sell El Khannouss due to PSR constraints which were eased following James Justin’s move to Elland Road in a reported £10m deal.

However, Leeds remain interested in the attacker as a late addition to Daniel Farke’s revamped squad, which has seen 10 new signings arrive in the last three months.

O’Rourke, speaking on the Inside Track podcast, revealed that Leicester are holding out for ‘top money’ for El Khannouss late in the transfer window, which could make Leeds’ pursuit of the 21-year-old midfielder more difficult:

“It looked like he was heading for Selhurst Park, El Khannouss. Talks were advanced between both clubs, but that deal has fallen through since.

“If Leeds are to try and get this deal done, it’s not going to be cheap – there’ll be a big transfer fee involved.

“Leicester are holding out for top money for El Khannouss – which they’re well entitled to – so that might be a problem for Leeds, to try and get to the figure that Leicester want.

“There’ll be other clubs looking at El Khannouss as well between now and the end of the window.”
