Lawyer confirms victim who dropped charges against Real Madrid’s Raul Asencio received payment

Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio this week had charges dropped against him by one of the victims in his ongoing legal case. The 22-year-old currently stands accused of distributing child pornography and distribution of sexual content without consent, but has defended his innocence.

This week it was revealed that older of the two victims, aged 18 and 16 at the time, had dropped charges against Asencio, while maintaining them against former Real Madrid academy players Ferran Ruiz, Andres Martin and Juan Rodriguez. However the younger victim and the public prosecutor are still pursuing charges against Asencio.

Asencio made payment to victim who dropped charges

Earlier this year it was reported that Asencio had reached a settlement with the victims to end his involvement in the court proceedings. This turned out to be false, however the lawyer for the older victim has received a payment from Asencio. Her lawyer. Margarita Alejo, confirmed to EFE (via Sport) that her client had withdrawn her prosecution of Asencio. This was due a letter of apology, during which there was a clear acknowledgement of his actions, and a compensation payment that was made to the victim. They have declined to reveal the amount of this compensation.

Asencio maintains innocence

Asencio meanwhile has noted in a statement that the charges are provisional, and thus he defends his right to the presumption of innocence, while expressing his ‘utmost respect’ for the sexual freedom of women. During an earlier interview, Asencio commented that his conscience was clear on the matter.

However the prosecution believe they have evidence in which Asencio himself leaves behind incriminating evidence in the form of a message. The public prosecutor has requested a sentence of 2.5 years for Asencio, while the younger victim is moving for a four-year sentence against the Real Madrid youngster. The club are yet to comment on the incident.
