Kylian Mbappé hints at timing of PSG departure announcement

Whilst Kylian Mbappé (25) is yet to confirm his future, the Frenchman has nonetheless hinted the date by which his decision will become public.

Mbappé told Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi that he would be departing the club upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season in February. Whilst no party has yet confirmed these widespread reports, they are widely accepted as truth, especially given Luís Enrique’s repeated statement that PSG will “have to get used to playing without Mbappé, sooner or later.”

Offered the chance to clarify his future at a press conference on Friday, Mbappé refused to do so, stating that he had “nothing to announce”. It is expected that upon the expiry of Mbappé’s deal on 30th June, he will join Real Madrid, with La Liga president Javier Tebas stating that he expects the deal to be done.

But when will it become official? Mbappé has hinted at the date by which the decision will become publically known. “I will be focused on the France national team when I arrive at the Euros. I think that [my future] will be sorted before then,” he told reporters on Friday.

The Euros get underway in Germany on 14th June. With Mbappé stating that he is fully focused on the final sprint with PSG between now and the end of the season, is there a chance that an announcement may have to wait until the end of the season? If so, that would leave a short window in which Mbappé’s future will be clarified.
