Köln secure loan deal for Wolfsburg’s Jakub Kaminski

The Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung reports that VfL Wolfsburg and FC Köln have ironed out the details of a loan move for attacker Jakub Kaminski. Köln have been targeting the Polish international for quite some time. The newly promoted Bundesliga outfit will now obtain Kaminski on loan for the year with a €7m purchase option.

Kaminski brings with him the experience of 70 German top flight appearances. He’s netted a total of four Bundesliga goals for die Wölfe. The 23-year-old did not score for Wolfsburg last season, but did manage to register five assists in 26 appearances across all competitions. Kaminski will serve as Köln’s third new arrival of the summer transfer window.

Die Geißböcke have already secured the services of two other attackers who completed successful campaigns in the 2. Bundesliga last year. Kaiserslautern striker Ragnar Ache and Fortuna Düsseldorf attack-minded midfielder Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson are already moving to the cathedral city.

It does nevertheless appear that, on the Kölner departure front, there will be new news soon. Kicker reports that Southampton’s latest offer for German-American striker Damion Downs contains an additional €2m in bonuses, pushing the amount tendered by the EFL Championship side to €10m.

Köln’s own contract extension negotiations with Downs may thus be rendered moot. Additionally, the state of negotiations with midfield mainstay Eric Martel aren’t yielding much. The Germany U21 captain may wish to keep the option of departing Köln on a free after the season open for quite some time.
