Bild reports that Borussia Dortmund are in negotiations with Karim Adeyemi over a contract extension, but things are far from smooth.
Adeyemi’s contract at the club does not expire until 2027, but talks over an extension are well underway, with the 23-year-old’s representative Jorge Mendes even visiting Brackel recently to negotiate with sporting director Sebastian Kehl.
However, Adeyemi is said to be insisting on a release clause being inserted into his new contract at the club. Something the Westfalen side tends to avoid unless under special circumstances, such as with the signing of Erling Haaland.
The positive for Dortmund is that the 23-year-old is not interested in leaving the club.
Dortmund do not wish to set a precedent:
Die Schwarzgelben’s problem is that if they allow Adeyemi a release clause, then other players can also make such a demand when they enter talks over an extension.
The main example here is Nico Schlotterbeck. Dortmund want to do everything possible to tie the 25-year-old down long-term at the club, but if he demands a release clause, it makes things complicated.
