Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed that Kai Havertz will start for Germany against France on Saturday night with the Arsenal forward given preference over Niclas Füllkrug.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Nagelsmann praised the development of Havertz, who has scored four goals in his last four consecutive Premier League games for Arsenal, while stating the importance of players with different attacking profiles.
“Kai has developed very well,” said Nagelsmann. “He has a lot of recognition from the coach and the club. I think very highly of him as a player and as a person. He will start against France as a central striker, something he has done six times for Arsenal.
“He has good deep running routes and very good pace. We are happy that we have a central tip behind it with abundance, which brings in a different profile. Deniz [Undav] can also play in other positions. It’s good that not every player has the same profile.”
Tomorrow’s friendly is an excellent opportunity for Havertz to showcase his abilities to Nagelsmann, who started the 24-year-old at left-back against Turkey and Austria in November.
