Jose Mourinho’s long-term future at Roma could depend on the club’s potential ability to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Sky Italia have previously stated that this could be Mourinho’s last season at Roma because of how he is not happy with the club’s planning and recruitment. Il Messaggero today have stated something along similar lines, stating that qualification for the Champions League could prove vital for Mourinho’s stay.
The manager is frustrated with how the January transfer window was and if it was down to him, he would not hesitate to play Nicolo Zaniolo despite the fact that he has been excluded from the technical project. Mourinho is also not happy with how he is having to chop and change his squad too often due to injuries, recruitment issues and the club’s failure to move players on.
He believes that Roma do not have the depth to finish inside the top four, with the club currently restricted in the transfer window because of FFP restrictions. Mourinho wants guarantees from the Friedkins about recruitment and transfers and qualification for the Champions League could be a key factor in all of this.
