Sunderland could get the chance to sign their former central midfielder Jordan Henderson on a free transfer this summer.
The experienced England international has a clause in his Ajax contract that would allow him to leave for free if the right opportunity arises.
It remains to be seen what could lie in store next for Henderson, however, who is attracting interest from a number of clubs.
Henderson is being most strongly linked with Nottingham Forest and Marseille in a report from the Daily Mail.
However, there has also recently been talk of Sunderland looking to re-sign the former Liverpool captain as they prepare for life back in the Premier League next season.

Jordan Henderson could return to Sunderland for free
It’s certainly an interesting twist that Henderson is available on a free, as that will surely be very tempting for his former club Sunderland.
The 35-year-old might not be at his peak any longer, but he should still have it in him to make a positive impact at Sunderland.
The Black Cats will likely be aware that next season is going to be a huge challenge for them after all three newly-promoted sides went straight back down in the most recent Premier League campaign.
Sunderland need to ensure they have the best summer transfer window possible, and it’s not exactly got off to the best start with Jobe Bellingham leaving to join Borussia Dortmund.
