Since the UFC formed back in 1993, fans have witnessed many dominant fighters throughout several different eras, however, it could be argued that none of them come close to the dominance which former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov enjoyed.
Still to this day, no fighter in the history of the UFC or MMA in general has had an undefeated record which is as incredible as Nurmagomedov’s 29 victories in a row, and what makes that even more impressive is the fact that he managed to maintain his undefeated record whilst fighting at the very highest level. One common thing which is brought up by fans and analysts when looking back on the Russian’s career is that he didn’t even seem to lose a round, and his wrestling and pressure were simply too much for his opponents.
Although Nurmagomedov’s dominance is recognised by many different people throughout the MMA world and his undefeated record is one of the most impressive things the sport has ever seen, UFC commentator Joe Rogan recently stated that he believes his 29-0 professional MMA record has an “asterisk” as Rogan personally believes that he has, in fact, lost a fight.
Joe Rogan Claims Khabib Nurmagomedov Lost to Gleison Tibau
Joe Rogan recently revealed that he believes there is an asterisk around Khabib Nurmagomedov’s incredible, undefeated 29-0 professional MMA record, as he believes he lost to Gleison Tibau in just his second fight in the UFC. Although many fans and analysts would argue that the Russian never lost a round during his career, Rogan recently said during a Fight Companion that he should’ve lost to Tibau, who was a solid lightweight fighter, but never threatened the top five.
See what Rogan had to say below:
“If you look at the record, Khabib’s got an undefeated record, (but) there’s an asterisk. That asterisk is Gleison Tibau. That was a very f*****g close fight that I thought Khabib lost, but it was early in Khabib’s career. You know, it was before he won the title.”
Tibau has been given credit for years for the test he managed to give Nurmagomedov, however, there are many people who have disagreed with Rogan’s take, as for that fight, all three judges gave every single round to the Russian, which guided him to a 30-27 unanimous decision victory. Tibau had quite a lot of success in the defensive grappling department against Khabib, however, Rogan’s take may just be a bit too far for some, claiming he should’ve lost.
