Ever since he stepped foot in the world of professional boxing back in 2020, Jake Paul has been extremely vocal in going after and having verbal altercations with boxing legends, both currently active and retired. ‘The Problem Child’ has adopted an approach of promotion which has worked to perfection in terms of his own gain, both financially and verbally, as he is arguably the most talked about man in boxing. Although it has worked and has given him lots of success, some of his claims and actions over the last five years have well and truly ruffled the feathers of many significant figures in boxing.
During a recently released interview with DAZN to promote his upcoming fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, which will take place on Saturday the 28th of June in California, Paul, as he typically does in many of his interviews, made a wild and controversial claim which has drawn a huge, furious reaction out of boxing fans all around the world. Paul’s latest claim is related to the man who changed the sport of boxing and is considered by many to be the greatest of all time, Muhammad Ali.

Jake Paul Claims He’s “The Greatest Thing to Happen to Boxing Since Muhammad Ali”
Paul’s claim has left boxing fans on social media furious
Since he made the step into the world of professional boxing over five years ago, Jake Paul has said many controversial things about and to several greats of the sport, however, nothing he has said has provoked such an aggressive response as his recent Muhammad Ali-related take during an interview with DAZN. ‘The Problem Child’ sat down with DAZN to promote his upcoming showdown with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, and during the interview, he went off on both Chavez Jr and the current state of boxing, comparing his influence on boxing to the influence the legendary Ali had.
Paul said the following to DAZN:
“I’m the greatest thing to happen to boxing since Muhammad Ali, and there’s no debating that.”
After putting his wild claim out there, Paul went on to list many of the things he has accomplished since venturing into professional boxing, and he ended his boasting session by essentially saying that his impact on the sport is greater than the likes of Ali, Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather’s as “they fought nobodies for their first 15 to 20 fights.”
“No other fighter is building gyms, getting boxing gloves into the hands of kids, throwing multiple events a year, donating my whole entire purse back into my own charity when I fought in Puerto Rico, taking women from getting paid $1,000 to five, six, seven million, breaking Netflix records, shutting down the site.
I’ve done this in only 12 fights, whereas Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather, Marvin Hagler, you can name any of these people, they fought nobodies for their first 15 to 20 fights. No one even knew who they were.”
While Paul listed many impressive things which he has done and given back to boxing in a very short period of time, his comments have riled up boxing fans as expected, with some fans on social media saying that even he doesn’t believe what he is saying and that he is delusional.
Although Ali is still talked about glowingly nowadays, comments like this from Paul show that his influence on the sport of professional boxing in the 60s, 70s, 80s and even beyond is still undersold and underappreciated.
