Emotional scenes on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite have sparked wild speculation over Adam Copeland’s future and the possibility of a reunion with a familiar foe.
Since Copeland’s WWE contract expired in 2023, the wrestling legend, best known as Edge, has starred for the major competitor All Elite Wrestling (AEW). Founded in 2019, AEW has emerged as WWE’s biggest rival, offering an alternative platform for top stars and younger talent alike. Copeland’s move was a significant coup, bringing a household name with decades of experience to their roster.
But a dramatic encounter at All Out 2025 earlier this month has left fans questioning whether Copeland’s time in the ring is over. At the Canadian pay-per-view showdown, Copeland and his former tag team partner, Christian Cage, defeated FTR — only to be ambushed afterwards. In chaotic scenes, Copeland was restrained while his wife, Beth Copeland, was attacked as she tried to intervene.
The latest episode of Dynamite featured a backstage segment in which Copeland told Cage he “doesn’t know if he’ll be back” before the two parted ways. The emotional moment has fuelled speculation about what lies ahead for the former WWE Superstar.
Will Edge Be Involved in John Cena’s Retirement Tour
With Copeland being effectively written out of AEW, some fans have even wondered whether he could return to WWE in time to face his long-time rival, John Cena, during the final stages of his retirement tour.
Despite both being legendary figures in WWE, the pair have amazingly not faced off in the ring together since 2010.
With only five dates remaining on Cena’s farewell tour, many fans are hopeful a dream encounter could be on the cards. Cena’s last scheduled match is on the 13th of December, and a showdown with Copeland would be an early Christmas gift for wrestling fans.
However, PWInsider has dismissed these rumours, reporting that any absence from AEW is likely due to Copeland’s acting commitments. The 51-year-old has recently starred as Ares, the God of War, in the first two seasons of Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
With production set to take place for the latest series, scheduling conflicts are the most probable reason for his storyline exit from AEW, putting a downer on any hope of a fantasy showdown.
For now then, the prospect of a showdown between two heavyweights of wrestling remains a tantalising dream for fans – but there’s nothing wrong with dreaming, eh?
