Serie A giants Inter progressed to the semi-finals of the Champions League after holding Bayern Munich to a draw in the second leg of the quarter-final.
The Nerazzurri went 1-0 down in the game early in the second half, allowing Bayern to equalise on aggregate. But Lautaro Martinez and Benjamin Pavard got a goal each to turn it around. An Eric Dier goal did give Bayern Munich some hope but Inter held on, nervously and did that while being very tired at the end.
Martinez was key in the game, also scoring a brilliant goal in the first leg. He has stated that it was a game that Inter players will remember for a long time.
He told Prime, via TMW: “We will remember it for a long time. Inter do not give up: they have personality, heart and head. We suffered, but we showed once again that we can do great things. Every year that begins, we try to win everything.”
Speaking about the upcoming tie against Barcelona, the Argentine said: “Important match against a great opponent, they have a lot of history in the Champions League. But now we focus on the championship, then we will think about the Champions League.”
Inter have a gruelling schedule coming up, as they take on Bologna in Serie A and then take on Milan in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals. They are three points clear at the top of the table and have all to play for in the season.
