Inter’s Hakan Calhanoglu apologises for penalty miss against Napoli: “I didn’t want to miss it today”

Serie A giants Inter would feel that they should have beaten Napoli today but a Hakan Calhanoglu missed penalty denied them all three points.

It was Calhanoglu himself who had equalised for the Nerazzurri in the first half after Scott McTominay had grabbed an early goal for the Partenopei. The second half saw Inter win a penalty after Denzel Dumfries was fouled but the Turk had the pen saved, missing his first ever penalty in Inter colours.

But Calhanoglu has taken responsibility for the missed penalty and in a chat with the media after the game, he said that the streak had to end.

He said, as relayed by TMW: “We dominated the match, we deserved more. We were unlucky, I’m sorry I missed the first penalty and I knew it would happen and I didn’t want to miss it today. I have to get back up immediately because the championship is still long. It was an intense match, many duels, we always looked for our forwards. In the second half we were better on the wing, we didn’t manage to score.”

As a result of the draw, there is only a two point gap between the league leaders Napoli and sixth placed Juve, which shows how well balanced the title race is,

Inter won’t be too disappointed with the draw, with the title race a long way from being concluded.
