France international centre-back William Saliba (24) is looking forward to settling the score with 2022 World Cup winners Argentina next year for the 2026 tournament. The Arsenal centre-back was an unused substitute for Les Bleus during the 2022 final. “If we come up against them, of course, we’ll be happy to take our revenge“, Saliba said during this Wednesday’s press conference at Clairefontaine’s France camp.
When asked whether or not he wanted a rematch with Argentina and Enzo Fernandez – who live-streamed himself last year singing an offensive chant about Les Bleus, with derogatory references to the France internationals of African descent – Saliba replied that he hasn’t lost to Enzo Fernandez’s Chelsea with Arsenal. “I’ve taken revenge with Arsenal on Chelsea. But it’s clear that, of course, when a team beats you, the only thing you want is to play them again.“
France could qualify for the 2026 World Cup as early as Monday if Iceland draw Ukraine on Friday and if France beat Azerbaijan and then Iceland.
