A convincing 3-0 FC Bayern München win over TSG 1899 Hoffenheim last night might not have transpired had TSG striker Maximilian Beier not miffed up a wonderful opportunity to equalize in the 65th minute. The celebrated German youth international – shortly after being denied via a wonderful save from German national team keeper Manuel Neuer – found himself all alone in front of the FCB keeper.
Beier regrettably rushed his effort and ended up hitting the crossbar. Speaking to German broadcaster DAZN afterwards, Beier expressed annoyance at his action. Sure to praise Neuer for saving his initial effort, Beier chastised himself for missing out on an opportunity to equalize and send the match in a totally different direction.
“I made a stupid mistake,” Beier told his interviewer, “I had plenty of time. It could have been 1-1 and much would have remained possible. I had too chances. The second was just wrong.”
