Huddersfield target move for Birmingham City goalkeeper Neil Etheridge

Huddersfield Town are plotting a move for Birmingham City goalkeeper Neil Etheridge, according to Football Insider.

The Yorkshire club and head coach Mark Fotheringham are desperately searching for a new keeper in the January transfer window. First-choice goalkeeper Lee Nicholls faces a long-term spell on the sidelines after shoulder surgery.

The Terriers have now brought their attention to Fulham academy graduate Etheridge.

The 32-year-old is not the first choice for the Blues. Etheridge has only made two appearances for the club in all competitions this season. John Ruddy is firmly ahead of him in the pecking order at St. Andrew’s.

A move to Huddersfield, where he will find regular playing time, could tempt the former Fulham and Charlton Athletic keeper.

Etheridge’s only appearances for Birmingham City are in the Cup competitions. One apiece in the FA and EFL Cup. John Eustace has not given him a sniff in the Championship.

His last appearance came a few days ago in the FA Cup, and he showed that he still has it. Bristol City beat Forest Green in the third round, and the wanted keeper made an outstanding triple save.

In the past two seasons, Etheridge has made 64 appearances for the Blues in the Championship. He kept 17 clean sheets across those games.

His journeyman career has seen him garner experience in the Championship and even in the Premier League with Cardiff.

Etheridge was at the Welsh club for three seasons and was their number-one shot-stopper when they ascended into the PL. He played every minute of their campaign and kept ten clean sheets.

Born to an English father and a Filipino mother, he opted to play for the Philippines. He has made 70 senior international appearances and has captained his nation since 2022.

Etheridge debuted for Fulham in 2008 and was at the club till 2014. He went on loans to Leatherhead, Charlton Athletic, Bristol Rovers, and Crewe Alexandra to establish himself. He later played for Oldham Athletic and Walsall.
