How Much Money Viktor Gyokeres is Willing to Give Up to Join Arsenal

Arsenal are closing in on their second signing of the summer after Mikel Arteta’s side were given the green light to move for Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres. The news comes after the arrival of Martin Zubimendi was formally announced after months of waiting.

The Swede has been touted as a potential target for the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United, but looks set to swap Lisbon for north London. Gyokeres is among the best strikers in world football after bagging 97 goals in 102 appearances for his current employers.

While the Premier League is a big step up from Liga Portugal, it’s not necessarily all positive for the striker. It has been reported that he’s willing to give up a sizeable amount of money to make the move happen, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the two clubs have still not agreed on a transfer fee.

Viktor Gyokeres Desperate to Play For Arsenal

He’s ready to take drastic measures to force through the move

If the 27-year-old was to make the move to the Emirates this summer, Romano has claimed he is inclined to give up a seven-figure sum. That figure is believed to be €2 million, which equates to £1.73 million.

It’s not the first time he’s proven not to be motivated by money, either, as the former Coventry City man turned down the opportunity to move to the lucrative Saudi Pro League. His desire to play at the highest level, in one of the best teams in the world, is there for all to see.

On top of that drastic measure, The Sun have reported that Sporting Lisbon fear the forward will go through with his threat to boycott pre-season training, which is set to resume on Monday. The Portuguese champions want £68.5 million to make the deal happen, but expect Gyokeres to turn up for the camp until that valuation is met.

Frederico Varandas, the Sporting president, had a public fallout with the ex-Championship marksman but believed the threat not to show up was simply a bluff. The expectation was still for Gyokeres to return to the capital on Sunday night after being granted extra time off following his involvement in Sweden’s international matches at the end of the 2024-25 season.
