Premier League in recent years has become a league full of mega-money transfers. With names like Jack Grealish, Harry Maguire, and Paul Pogba, it has seen some of the most expensive transfers in football. However, these are a few names, and there are a lot of others as well. Both the Manchester clubs, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal are spending big to fix their squads. And the recent takeover at Newcastle United will also see them have this kind of extravagant transfer in the coming days. In this article, we will list the 5 costliest transfers in the Premier League era.

Jack Grealish ( Aston Villa to Manchester City £100 million):

The dynamic winger was Aston Villa’s prized possession. But when a team of Manchester City’s calibre comes knocking on the door, it is quite hard to resist. Pep Guardiola is a big admirer of Grealish’s technical abilities. And that is the reason he allowed the board to break the bank for the player. However, his impact has not been felt properly as Pep didn’t really include him in most of the games. Jack is quite young and he will only get better with the brilliant squad he is surrounded with.

Romelu Lukaku ( Inter Milan to Chelsea £97 million):

The former Chelsea man returned in dramatic style as Chelsea paid a hefty price to the Italian side. He was instrumental in Inter Milan’s league win. And Tuchel wanted a man to score plenty of goals for him. Romelu Lukaku was quite keen to return to Premier League as well. As he feels that he has a point to prove after an underwhelming stint with Manchester United. He has not hit his peak yet, but Tuchel believes he is the perfect striker for the blues.

Paul Pogba ( Juventus to Manchester United £89 million):

The mercurial midfielder returned to his former club as Jose Mourinho took over from departing Louis Van Gaal. Manchester United broke the headlines, as Pogba became the most expensive buy, back in 2016. The extravagant midfielder divided the English media, where one side was in awe of his raw talent and the others criticized his every antic. Overall the love-hate relationship with Pogba and English media might come to an end as he is on the verge of leaving United after 6 years.

Harry Maguire ( Leicester City to Manchester United £78 million):

The transfer that broke almost every record for a defender is Harry Maguire to Manchester United. The former Leicester City man was on United’s radar for a long period. Jose Mourinho also wanted him during his time at United. But it was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who got him, back in 2020.

Romelu Lukaku ( Everton to Manchester United £75 million):

When Jose Mourinho needed to have a frontman at Old Trafford, he convinced the United board to pay a hefty price for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku. And the big Belgian made an instant impact in the first season. Lukaku is the only striker to break the highest-paid striker in Premier League twice.
