One of the world’s greatest combat sport heavyweights, kickboxing champion Rico Verhoeven, has made a bold prediction for the prospective Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall showdown, should the UFC successfully book the bout.
Jones and Aspinall have been linked with one another for years. The American dominated the light heavyweight division for more than a decade, earning himself GOAT status in the sport among many observers, but left the 205-pound weight class to move to the heavyweight division. To date, he’s only fought twice in that weight class — against Ciryl Gane, whom he beat with ease, and Stipe Miocic, whom he finished, last year, with a spinning back kick to the body.
His body of work at heavyweight is incomplete, regardless of his other accomplishments, as he’s not risen to the challenge of a unification fight against the UFC’s interim champion Aspinall, who has rampaged his way through all the other contenders, to stake a claim as the No.1 challenger — if not the true champion, considering Jones’s apparent reluctance to meet him in the Octagon.
If they were to fight in one of the biggest bouts the sport has ever seen, though, Verhoeven sees a clear winner.

Rico Verhoeven’s Bold Prediction For Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall
Kickboxing champ expects clear winner to emerge
Verhoven was speaking to MMA Fighting when making his prediction, ahead of his own return to competition as he fights Artem Vakhitov in a GLORY heavyweight championship bout on Saturday, the 14th of June in the Netherlands.
Verhoeven, who has trained with Aspinall through the years, expects his team-mate to dominate Jones.
“We call, we pick up for each other, we have each other’s backs, no matter what,” Verhoven said, regarding his friendship with Aspinall.
“I understand for other people, he’s Tom Aspinall! For me … he’s my brother. He’s my friend. I appreciate and I love him. He’s the best, the sweetest and the kindest guy. He’s so humble.”
Verhoven added that he loves the Jones fight for his buddy.
“He’s going to wipe the floor with Jon Jones.”
He added: “Jon Jones doesn’t have a chance versus Tom Aspinall. Mark my words. Tom Aspinall is a freaking monster. On his feet and on the ground.
“I truly believe Jon Jones has never faced somebody that is that good on his feet. On the ground, he’s faced some guys that are pretty good. But on the feet, I think Tom, he would even do good in the kickboxing ring. He would be a top competitor to fight me as well. So I love it.”
