Former Brighton and Chelsea head coach Graham Potter is in talks with Crystal Palace, according to a report this evening from Foot Mercato.
The Eagles ended their Premier League campaign with a home 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest to finish 11th in the standings – a commendable ranking that owes much to the shrewd appointment of veteran head coach Roy Hodgson two months ago. The former Liverpool and England boss replaced a struggling Patrick Vieira, on St. Patrick’s Day, following a run of poor results for the South London outfit. Hodgson turned the side’s fortunes around, but it is clear from Palace’s point of view that the 75-year-old does not embody the club’s future. It is not yet clear if Hodgson wants to extend his stay at Selhurst Park after agreeing to takeover the Eagles until the end of the 2022/2023 campaign.
The outlet adds that Palace “absolutely” want to appoint Potter from next season onwards. Foot Mercato reports that the 48-year-old’s short spell as Chelsea head coach did not really hurt his reputation. According to separate reports, the former Brighton coach has also been targeted by INEOS to replace Didier Digard at Nice, which is owned by the British chemicals company.
