Sunday’s football starts at the Coliseum where Getafe are in need of a positive result to halt their miserable start to the season. Real Sociedad are the visitors, fresh from a famous European win at Old Trafford.

This all feels a bit like deja-vu for Getafe and their supporters. They went on a woeful run at the start of last season with their first point only coming on matchday 8 in this very fixture. It wasn’t enough to keep Michel in a job though and Quique Sanchez Flores came in to drastically improve their fortunes, although a year on, he has plenty of the same issues to sort out again.

Getafe are leaking goals and not doing basic things properly. They were hammered 5-1 at Valencia last weekend and Sanchez Flores needs to quickly find some solutions and a way to make them solid again. He appears undecided right now about whether he wants to play 4-4-2 or 3-5-2, although that decision may be made for him here with centre-backs Djené and Omar Alderete both out injured.

The only positive for Getafe heading into this game is the possibility that Real Sociedad may just be a bit tired after putting in a big shift in Manchester on Thursday night. Brais Mendez’s penalty sealed a famous 1-0 win over United for Imanol’s side and it was certainly an evening to remember for the followers of the Basque team who made the trip to England.

Real Sociedad have won all of their three away games by a 1-0 margin this season, also enjoying success at Cadiz and Elche in LaLiga. Those are the other two teams in the drop-zone along with this weekend’s opponents Getafe so they will fancy their chances of repeating the feat, although Imanol did name effectively his strongest eleven in the Europa League game so we may see a bit of rotation.

They may adopt a similarly cautious approach here and it may just deliver their second point of the season against a Real Sociedad side that may not be at their best, less than 72 hours on from their Europa League win at Old Trafford.
