Speaking with an interview in today’s edition of L’Équipe, Olympique de Marseille midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia (32) revealed a conversation he had with Roberto De Zerbi in the aftermath and harsh measures put in place on the Olympien squad after their loss against Reims (3-1) two weeks ago. OM’s players were told to stay the night following the loss at the Commanderie training ground after being informed their rest days had been cancelled. For Kondogbia, this meant he spent Eid celebrations with his fellow teammates instead of his family.
“I try to take things the most sensible way possible. I have a very direct relationship with the coach – which I like a lot,” said Kondogbia. “I told him: If you are sure of this decision, and that you are convinced that this is what is required for OM to get back to the top level – then I’ll get behind it. Let’s do it.”
“That’s is the only thing that matters. Everything else is secondary. If it was with the objective to shore up the squad, to do some video work – it’s beneficial. As long as I can understand it, it allows you to accept these sacrifices.”
