The veteran full-back could hang up the boots after the end of the 2025-26 campaign.
As RTL/ntv and sport.de have exclusively learned, Freiburg captain Christian Günter will end his career in the summer of 2026.
The decision is already considered almost final for the full-back who started in the SCF youth team in 2006 and has never played for another club.
Since 2020, he has led the Breisgauers onto the pitch as captain, but the 32-year-old is beginning to feel time catching up with him.
Having played over 300 Bundesliga games for the club, he holds the crown as Freiburg’s record player in that department.
However, a move to another club is entirely out of the question for Günter, who is a Freiburger through and through.
