For the first time in their history, SC Freiburg will play European football in the spring after bashing Nantes 4-0 on Thursday.
A huge second half surge carried by the likes of Woo-yeong Jeong and Michael Gregoritsch allowed Freiburg to shockingly claim their fourth win from four Europa League games. The Breisgau club still have a brutal month ahead with more European action along with league play and the DFB-Pokal.
Legendary Freiburg manager, Christian Streich, unsurprisingly tried to downplay the magnitude of this victory following the match: “Of course, the result doesn’t match the game. But, we are very, very satisfied.”
Midfielder Nicolas Höfler added that, “No one would have expected this at the beginning of the Europa League. We’re glad things are going so well and we’re going to keep riding the wave for as long as we can.”
Freiburg are already turning their attention to a huge Matchday 10 battle against the record champions, as Höfler stated:
“We are very confident and want to make it difficult for Bayern. If we can do that and Bayern don’t have the best day, then we can score points.”
