France have discovered two of their three 2026 World Cup opponents on Friday as the finald draw was conducted in Washington DC. Les Bleus will face Sénégal, Norway as well as the FIFA Play-off 2 winner, which will be one of Bolivia, Suriname or Iraq in Group I. Most of all, Les Bleus have also found out that they will play their World Cup group stage games in the Eastern region of the tournament.
FIFA will reveal this Saturday the locations and scheduling of France’s three World Cup games, but it is certain by now that Les Bleus will, logically, set up their base camp on the US eastern seaboard. L’Equipe understands that the French FA has been working overtime to find the perfect base camp for next summer. The outlet adds that France are currently setting their sights on a hotel in the vicinity of New York City.
According to the FIFA brochure, three base camps in New York are currently available to qualified teams for the World Cup: the Heldrich Hotel and Conference Center, the Somerset Hills Hotel and the Ridge.
However, France are yet to find a suitable training ground. The French FA reportedly eyes the training centres of the New York-based MLS franchises – the Red Bulls and NYCFC – but both these teams will occupy their respectives centres during the World Cup, given the MLS will be in full swing. However, L’Equipe adds that negotiations are still possible to find an agreement which would see France “borrow” one of those two teams’ training ground.
