Former Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello has this week turned heads across the Spanish football landscape.
This comes by way of a round of comments regarding the talents of Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal.
Wide-man Lamine has of course spent the season to date continuing to build on his reputation as one of the game’s very best players.
Still just 17 years of age, the attacker has established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet of a dominant Barcelona outfit.
And his numbers back the trust of manager Hansi Flick, with Lamine having racked up 16 goals and a whopping 24 assists to date in 2024/25.
Safe to say, then, that the comments on the part of the aforementioned Fabio Capello this week have come as something of a surprise.
Drawn on the talents of Barcelona’s wing prodigy during an interview with COPE, as cited by Forbes, ex-Real Madrid headmaster Capello explained:
“Lamine is a player with a lot of quality, who can improve a lot, but I don’t see him with the brilliance of a phenomenon.
“Messi or Maradona did things that no one can imagine. They were world stars. Really, Lamine cannot be compared to the two of them and in the future I do not see him [being so] either.“
