Ayman Kari (21), a former France U20 international, looked primed to break through at formative club Paris Saint-Germain.
He had impressed during his loan spell at FC Lorient back in the 2023/24 season, even if it was a spell that did only yield one goal and one assist in 20 matches. It was a loan that was expected to launch his career. Prior to that, he already had lucrative offers from Manchester City and Bayern Munich on the table, but he opted to remain with PSG, where he would never make a first-team appearance.
But on his return to PSG, rather than following Warren Zaire-Emery and making the step up, he was sidelined. L’Équipe understands that, during his loan with Les Merlus, Kari struggled with the constraints linked to his diet, and he was inconsistent and, at times, “lazy” in training.
The publication adds that when he returned, Luis Enrique wanted to give Kari his chance, but the player was between eight to ten kg overweight. When he was sent back to the youth side, he began to miss sessions.
In January of this year, AS Saint-Étienne looked to take Kari on loan but were then put off the deal due to the player’s continued weight issues. “When that happened, everyone mourned for him at the club. We understood that it was over,” a source at PSG told L’Équipe.
His contract at PSG expired over the summer, and he has yet to find a new club. His career is on hold, or perhaps even over altogether. One of his friends told L’Équipe that “it isn’t about money or disgust [with the game], it was a personal decision from a young man who thinks that he isn’t made for this professional world.”
Now removed from the world of football, the former PSG prospect’s time in football may be over.
