It has been a while since Chancel Mbemba (31) has graced the football pitch at club level, however, he is now set for a return.
Mbemba was a key part of Olympique de Marseille’s squad back in the 2023/24 season, however, Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival at the club in the summer of 2024 effectively ended his career at the club. The centre-back was omitted from first-team training, forced to train with the reserves in view of a sale. However, that sale never came. Despite bids arriving, none suited Mbemba, who surprisingly opted to ride it out.
He saw out the final year of his contract at Marseille without playing a single minute of football, before leaving on a free transfer this summer. Mbemba has been waiting for the right project, and it has now arrived.
According to Marc Mechenoua, he is set to join Lille OSC. Mbemba will sign a one-year deal with LOSC. He will fill the gap created by the departure of Bafodé Diakité, who signed for Premier League side Bournemouth earlier in the transfer window.
