Former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen agrees transfer terms with Bundesliga club

Former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has reportedly agreed to join Bundesliga club Wolfsburg.

The 33-year-old has been a free agent since leaving the Red Devils in June.

Championship outfit Wrexham approached Eriksen in July but he turned down their proposal, hoping to continue his career at a top-flight team.

Bayer Leverkusen had also been linked with an interest, but he is now on the verge of joining Wolfsburg.

According to Tipsbladet, Eriksen has agreed terms with the German club, with a medical and the signing of his contract remaining before the move becomes official.

The Denmark international joined United as a free agent in the summer of 2022. He made 107 appearances during his three years spell, bagging eight goals and 19 assists.

He was a regular member of the first-team in his debut campaign, and played a pivotal role in helping the team win the 2022-23 Carabao Cup trophy.

The emergence of Kobbie Mainoo reduced his game time the following season, but he still made 28 appearances across all competitions.

Eriksen’s role further diminished in 2024-25, with Erik ten Hag’s replacement Ruben Amorim not considering him good enough to feature in his 3-4-2-1 formation.

United decided not to renew his contract at the end of last season and he left Old Trafford as a free agent.

Eriksen is now close to joining Wolfsburg, who are a mid-table team in the Bundesliga.

His experience and leadership qualities will likely help Paul Simonis’ side perform well in the German top-flight this season.
