FA ‘Will Investigate’ Shock Moises Caicedo Incident During Chelsea 1-3 Brighton

Chelsea could be in hot water with the FA after Moises Caicedo lashed out at Brighton defender Jan Paul Van Hecke during their 3-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge, according to The Sun.

Enzo Maresca’s side suffered their second loss of the Premier League season on Saturday afternoon, as late goals from Danny Welbeck and Maxim de Cuyper handed the visitors all three points.

After taking the lead in the first half through Enzo Fernandez’s headed goal, Chelsea were reduced to 10 men in the 53rd minute when Trevoh Chalobah was sent off for a desperate challenge on Georginio Rutter.

This marked a second consecutive weekend in which the Blues saw a player dismissed, following Robert Sanchez’s early sending off in their 2-1 defeat at Manchester United.

As tensions boiled late in the second half, Caicedo was also lucky not to be booked after an apparent attack on Van Hecke, which could reportedly land Chelsea in further trouble.

According to The Sun, Caicedo’s incident with Van Hecke could attract attention from the FA after the Ecuador international appeared to strike the Brighton defender in ‘a furious fit of rage’ late in the second half.

Van Hecke was seen falling to the floor and rolling in pain after Caicedo’s action and, according to ex-Premier League referee Mark Halsey, the incident will be investigated by the FA.

Halsey, as quoted by The Sun, said:

“It appears there was an act of violent conduct on Caicedo’s part but, looking at the video, it does seem inconclusive.

“And VAR looked at the footage and felt the same that it was inconclusive.

“Now, the FA will investigate, they will look at it again.

“Both clubs will be charged with failing to control their players. there’s no doubt about that, but the FA will look at this and there may be retrospective action taken against Caicedo.

“But, as I say, looking at it, it does look as though it’s inconclusive.”

The 3-1 defeat saw Chelsea prolong their winless Premier League streak, with the Blues still searching for a top-flight victory since the September international break.

Their only win since the start of the month came in the EFL Cup third round, a 2-1 away victory at Lincoln City, where the Blues conceded first before mounting a second-half comeback.

Chelsea face back-to-back home games next, hosting Benfica at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday in the Champions League, followed by a clash against reigning champions Liverpool next weekend.
