Ex-Premier League boss would be ‘intriguing’ Van Bronckhorst successor

Rangers appointing former Burnley manager Sean Dyche as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s replacement would be intriguing, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Dyche has been out of work since he was relieved of his duties at Turf Moor back in April and has been tentatively linked with taking over the reins at Ibrox should Van Bronckhorst be sacked.

What is the latest news involving Rangers?

Rangers have endured a difficult opening few months of the current campaign, recording the worst-ever record in the Champions League group stage after losing all six games with a goal difference of -20.

And a shock 2-1 defeat away to St Johnstone last time out in the Scottish Premiership also saw them slip seven points behind bitter rivals Celtic in the title race.

Van Bronckhorst insisted that he can transform the Gers’ fortunes in a recent interview when questioned over his future, though.

“It’s hard not to be aware of it. I don’t live in a basement, so it’s for everyone to see,” he said. “I’ve been in football a long time. I know I can turn it around or I wouldn’t be sitting here.”

Scottish Express Sport’s Charlie Nicholas has claimed that Dyche and ex-Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl would be interested in the Rangers job.

What has Jones said about Dyche?

Jones has informed GiveMeSport that he believes Dyche has ‘shown that he can fight in the Premier League’ and that he would, therefore, be ‘intrigued’ to see how he faired with the Glasgow giants.

He said: “I’d be really intrigued to see Sean Dyche throw himself into a role like this and Rangers to take a chance on it.

“I think given what he’s achieved in the game so far with turning around the fortunes of Burnley, he’s shown that he can fight in the Premier League and also come up with tactics that work in the Premier League.”

Would Dyche be an improvement on GVB?

Van Bronckhorst claimed one Eredivisie crown and two Dutch Cups during his time in charge of Feyenoord and added the Scottish Cup to his trophy collection last term.

The 47-year-old tactician also guided Rangers to the Europa League final in 2021/22 and back to the Champions League group stages for the first time since 2010/11 this time around.

Ally McCoist celebrates after scoring Rangers' second goal

Ally McCoist is Rangers’ club record goal scorer, but when did he leave the club as a player?

On the other hand, Dyche led Burnley to the Championship title during his near 10-year stint at the club as well as a seventh-placed finish in the Premier League.

Both managers boast impressive CVs, but if Van Bronckhorst cannot turn things around soon at Rangers the club’s hierarchy may have no other choice than to place their faith in someone else.
