Christian Eriksen is named among Wolfsburg’s six-player council, despite arriving late in the transfer window and still waiting for his first appearance. Paul Simonis also announced that Mattias Svanberg replaces Sebastiaan Bornauw as Wolfsburg’s second captain.
Maximilian Arnold will continue to lead the team, while Kilian Fischer and the two goalkeepers – Kamil Grabara and Pavao Pervan – complete the team council. Simonis explained his decision to include Eriksen by saying he wanted a new signing in the small group of leaders, in addition to utilizing the vast experience of the 33-year-old midfielder.
Denmark’s record appearance maker could also play his maiden Bundesliga game on Sunday. Simonis excludes the option of him starting, but he could come off the bench later in the game.
“We know that he has not trained at the level we require in the past few months,” said Wolfsburg’s coach. “It’s the challenge for us that he gets a little bit stronger every day.”
Meanwhile, fellow new signing and Eriksen’s compatriot Jesper Lindström is definitely out of the visit to Dortmund. The former Eintracht Frankfurt winger will be out for around two weeks. Mohammed Amoura will make his return from a thigh injury, however.
