According to Bild, Edin Terzic is unlikely to be sacked in the winter break, even if Borussia Dortmund struggle against Mainz in midweek.
The game against Mainz is not seen as a do-or-die game for Terzic and he will likely carry on in the new year. The first analysis of the season will happen during the break and a win against Mainz will bring to an end talk of Terzic’s future, but if the poor form continues, the pressure will increase.
Last season, Terzic showed that he was able to turn the team around after Christmas as Dortmund struggled in the first half of the season and stumped up a title challenge.
The biggest reason for Terzic not getting sacked is that Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke gave his friend a job guarantee in the summer. It is also reported that Watzke does not like to sack managers in the middle of the season despite sacking Lucien Favre in mid-season to replace him with Terzic back in the 2020/21 season.
Dortmund are currently winless in December and despite qualifying out of a tough Champions League group, they currently sit fifth in the Bundesliga five points off of the top four.
