Marvin Ducksch wanted to make clear that he didn’t wish to judge the many veteran footballers who have moved to Saudi Arabia of the past year when speaking to Tim Lüddecke of Germany’s Kicker Magazine recently. In an article published on the magazine’s website late yesterday, Ducksch made it clear that he assumed aging stars such as Neymar, Fabinho, Riyad Mahrez, N’Golo Kante and others had “thought about their decision”.
For the 29-year-old, however, interest from the Arabian Peninsula didn’t awaken much enthusiasm in him this summer. Ducksch noted that he didn’t bother to board a plane to follow up on the inquires. Moreover, financial incentives played no role for the veteran now finally thriving in Germany’s top footballing flight. Ducksch is quoted as saying that his continued footballing development was far more important.
“I wanted to stay here,” Ducksch said, “That was clear to me from very early on. [When it comes to Saudi Arabia] I don’t fully understand it because many players have earned enough money in their career and they don’t need those extra millions. [In any event] I’m sure they thought about and had their reasons.”
“I’ve set goals for myself this year,” he added, “I’m very ambitious and always seek to improve. I think I’m in good shape to do so here.”
