Draymond Green is arguably the best defender of his generation. As much as Stephen Curry was the face of the Golden State Warriors dynasty that ruled the NBA over the past decade, Green was the heart and soul of all their championship teams.
Now entering the tail end of his career, the former Michigan State star has been trying out other ventures, especially on the media side of things. He has his own successful podcast, called The Draymond Green Show, where he usually speaks his mind about the game.
Likewise, Green has also spent time in the studio with the NBA on TNT crew, where he occasionally sits down and analyzes the current-day product with Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, Shaquille O’Neal, and Charles Barkley.
But before he moves on to the media side completely, the 35-year-old is still looking to add to his already stacked resume that includes four NBA championships, four All-Star appearances, nine All-Defensive Team selections, two All-NBA nods, and one Defensive Player of the Year trophy.
With over a month to go before the 2025-26 NBA season, Green has been working hard this summer in preparation for his 14th NBA season. He was recently seen in the gym training alongside Jimmy Butler III as he gears up to potentially bring one more championship to the Bay Area before he calls it a career.
But in the midst of his busy offseason, Green found the time to appear on Kai Cenat’s livestream and talk some basketball with the famous streamer.
Draymond Green Names His Favorite Player in the NBA Today
Draymond Green has been fortunate enough to have spent his entire career playing alongside one of the best players of all time and arguably the greatest point guard ever in Stephen Curry. Likewise, the 35-year-old has had heated battles with the player many people, Green included, say is the greatest of all time in LeBron James, who also happens to be his close friend.
But when Cenat asked him who his favorite player to watch is, he didn’t go with either the man he has won four championships with or the player he considers the GOAT.
“My favorite is Shai [Gilgeous-Alexander]. Because Shai, he’s just going to get you a bucket. People be complaining like, ‘Yo, he’s drawing fouls.’ But that’s a skill. There is an art to that. If you’re a dumb defender and you foul, that’s your fault. That’s no knock to him that he knows how to get fouled.”
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Is An Exceptional Superstar
As Green mentioned, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander often gets criticized by NBA fans and analysts for his constant flailing and foul-baiting tactics. Some people complain about how they always see the shooting guard at the freethrow line whenever they tune in to Oklahoma City Thunder games.
Green likened SGA to James Harden, a man whom the four-time NBA champion had plenty of battles with in the Western Conference during their championship runs.
Gilgeous-Alexander is obviously a savant on the offensive side of the floor with his versatile skill set, uncanny change-of-pace drives, impeccable footwork, and elite midrange game that make him a handful for opposing defenders.
But as Green emphasized, SGA’s ability to draw fouls, just like Harden did, is what makes him all the more special. He’s led the NBA in freethrows made per game over the past two seasons. In terms of total freethrows, he’s been the league leader over the last three years.
Not many people may like it, but Gilgeous-Alexander’s playing style has clearly been effective, not only in putting points on the board, but be a formula for winning.
This isn’t the first time Green has heaped Gilgeous-Alexander’s praises. The four-time All-Star has always been a fan of the reigning NBA MVP’s game. Here is what he said during one of his podcasts about SGA’s leadership prior to Oklahoma City’s NBA Finals run this past June.
“I do think they have a great, young leader in Shai who has built the culture. Like, Shai has taken part in building that culture back there… Shai has built that culture there from the beginning… I respect Shai, especially as a leader.”
Gilgeous-Alexander’s Special 2024-25 Season
Gilgeous-Alexander really came into his own as a leader for the Thunder this past 2024-25 season. His growth in that aspect of his game was arguably the most important development in OKC’s rise to the mountaintop this year.
And that resulted in, not just a special year for the Thunder, but a truly remarkable campaign for SGA. Not only did he win his first NBA championship, but he also became the first player since 2000 to win league MVP, Finals MVP, and the scoring title in the same year.
He joined Shaquille O’Neal, the most recent man to accomplish that feat, Michael Jordan, who did it four times, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who did it in 1971.

Draymond Green and the Warriors may be looking to potentially win another championship this season. But that’s going to be harder said than done when Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the one they have to unseat on the throne.
