Diego Lopes Breaks Silence Following UFC 314 Loss to Alexander Volkanovski

In the main event of UFC 314, one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, Alexander Volkanovski, regained his spot at the very top of the UFC’s featherweight division. The Australian defeated rising Brazilian prospect Diego Lopes via unanimous decision to become a two-time featherweight champion. ‘The Great’ looked like his old self and put in a vintage performance, but credit also has to go to Lopes, as he went in there against a seasoned veteran and made the fight competitive, even managing to hurt and drop Volkanovski badly.

UFC 314 was Lopes’ first main event fight and his first shot at UFC gold, so MMA fans shouldn’t count him out and write him off yet, as he is incredibly talented and still only 30 years old, which means he still has lots left to give to MMA’s leading organisation. The Brazilian has taken to social media following his loss to Volkanovski and has issued a statement vowing to come back and improve.

Diego Lopes Issues Statement Following UFC 314 Loss

The Brazilian has issued an upbeat and positive statement following his loss to Alexander Volkanovski

Diego Lopes has issued his first statement following his loss to Alexander Volkanovski in the main event of UFC 314. The Brazilian has taken to Instagram to issue a positive and upbeat statement, vowing to improve and come back to the Octagon even stronger.

See Lopes’ statement below:

“Always keep your chin up, a smile on your face. Fell short last night, failed at some things. I’ll get back to work, improve, correct mistakes and move on. Thank you all for your support. As I always say, “NOTHING HAPPENS.”

For Lopes to issue such a positive statement after what would’ve been such a crushing loss is a testament to his character, and him adopting an attitude like this will surely set him up for more success in the UFC. The Brazilian remained competitive in the fight with Volkanovski for the whole five rounds and even managed to drop and hurt the Australian very badly, but Volkanovski’s time away from the Octagon clearly brought the strength back to his chin after suffering back-to-back KO losses.

There is clearly a heated beef between Lopes and Rodriguez, and with the UFC officially heading to Guadalajara, Mexico, later this year for a pay-per-view event, it makes complete sense for Lopes, who is Brazilian but represents Mexico, to face off against ‘El Pantera,’ who is Mexican.
