Daniel Dubois Lost Staggering Sum After Cancelled Joseph Parker Fight

The true cost to IBF Heavyweight Champion Daniel Dubois of being forced out of his title defence against Joseph Parker on Saturday night has been revealed – and it’s not great news for the Brit. ‘Triple D’ was reportedly withdrawn from the contest by doctors – sending the pay-per-view card into chaos as organisers struggled to find a late replacement for Parker to face.

That slot eventually went to Congolese heavyweight Martin Bakole – who was quickly destroyed by the New Zealander inside two rounds on the night. While the card itself may have lost a little bit of its appeal after Dubois withdrawal – it’s the world champion’s bank balance that will be feeling the effects the most.

That’s according to data experts at CasinoHawk, who estimate that Dubois’ illness may have cost him several million pounds. The 27-year-old had been due to make the second defence of his IBF title in his first fight since stopping Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium last September.

His victory over Joshua had looked set to catapult Dubois’ earning potential to lucrative new levels. However, he’ll now need to wait to enjoy that potential wealth.

How Daniel Dubois Missed Out on Close to £8m After Pulling Out of Parker Fight

It’s not just a huge purse that Dubois has lost out on

The breakdown provided by the number crunchers were made up as follows.

  • Guaranteed Purse: £2.5 million
  • Pay-Per-View Share (60%): Estimated at £4 million, based on an expected 850,000 buys
  • Training Camp Expenses: Between £250,000 and £400,000, covering costs for coaches, sparring partners, travel, and other logistics
  • Potential Sponsorship Losses: Approximately £500,000, as deals with brands like Adidas and 32Red were likely contingent on fight-week exposure.
On the high end of those estimates, Dubois is out of pocket by some £7.4 million. Still several years shy of his 30th birthday, ‘Dynamite’ will likely still have several years left to make big money in the heavyweight division. However, missing out on such a vast sum will still sting, especially if the illness that forced him out of the Parker fight turns out to be a long-term issue.

Daniel Dubois professional boxing record (as at 22/02/2025)
24 fights 22 wins 2 losses
By knockout 21 2
By decision 1 0

A title defence against Parker once he is healthy could potentially take place with a limited delay after the Kiwi made light work of Bakole on Saturday night. A unification bout with Oleksandr Usyk could also be a big money earner for Dubois, as could a rematch with Anthony Joshua. All future plans depend upon the Londoner getting cleared to fight, though, which he’ll surely be keen to do as soon as possible.
