Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise out for weeks after suffering hamstring tear

Michael Olise (21) has left the France squad taking part in the UEFA U21 European Championships after picking up a hamstring injury during Sunday’s 1-0 win against Norway, according to L’Équipe and RMC Sport. The Crystal Palace winger scored the only goal of the game to give Les Bleuets the lead in Group D. Olise sustained the injury only minutes after finding the back of Norway’s net, colliding with Leeds United’s Norwegian goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson.

The French publication indicates that Olise left the stadium at Cluj-Napoja on crutches on Sunday night. Medical exams on Monday revealed that the Crystal Palace forward has picked up a hamstring tear that will keep him out of contention for weeks, meaning his U-21 Euros is already over. Olise was due to return to London as early as today. With the 21-year-old winger out of action, U-21 France manager Sylvain Ripoll is expected to mostly rely on Lyon’s Bradley Barcola as his right-sided wide forward. Les Bleuets will play Switzerland on Wednesday for their final group-stage game.

Olise’s injury is a blow for France, but also for Crystal Palace. As reported by RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins, Olise won’t be able to train for a few weeks, and it is, therefore, questionable whether he will be fully fit for the start of the Premier League campaign.
