Manchester United star Harry Maguire is ‘concerned’ by his lack of game-time this season and may have to seek an Old Trafford exit next year, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
Erik ten Hag was appointed as the Red Devils’ boss following the climax of last term and the change in the dugout has not played into Maguire’s hands.
What’s the latest news involving Maguire?
Injuries and a lack of form have restricted Maguire to just 190 minutes of Premier League action since the 2022/23 campaign got underway.
Although the central defender – who was linked with a move to Chelsea in August – is currently on the sidelines with an injury, it seems he is nearing a return to full fitness.
According to The Mail on Sunday, Maguire has stepped up his bid to be fit for the World Cup by running again in training and he could be available within a week.
The report suggests the 48-cap England international could feature against Chelsea at the weekend having not played since injuring his thigh in a Nations League clash with Germany last month.
It is understood that Three Lions chief Gareth Southgate has offered Maguire his full support during his early season struggles.

What has Pete O’Rourke said about Maguire?
O’Rourke believes Maguire will find it difficult to return to the Manchester United starting line-up after recovering from his thigh problem.
The journalist feels that will worry the 29-year-old and it could lead to doubts over whether to remain at Old Trafford.
O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “If you’re on the bench and your team’s winning, or you’re not even in the squad, you’re going to find it hard to get back in.
“It’s going to be a concern for Harry Maguire if the Manchester United defence continues to do well and the team continues to win games. He’s going to find it harder to get in.
“I’m sure if the situation arises that he is not playing by next summer’s transfer window, it’s maybe time that he has to make a decision on his long-term future.”
Should Maguire have been getting more game-time?
Maguire may have become the world’s most expensive defender when he completed the £80million switch from Leicester City three years ago, but his performances have not been to a high standard.
The Red Devils have lost all three of the matches he has started this season – conceding seven goals in the process – while they have only suffered one defeat when he has been on the bench or left out of the matchday squad.
Those statistics make for grim reading from Maguire’s point of view and, after Manchester United spent £56.7million on Lisandro Martinez during the summer, ten Hag’s decision to restrict his captain’s opportunities is understandable.
