With Paris Saint-Germain once again out of the Champions League at the last 16 stage, manager Christophe Galtier finds himself under more pressure than ever, with only the Ligue 1 title defence campaign at stake now.
Speaking to Canal+ at the end of the defeat in Bavaria tonight, his words transcribed by RMC, the former Lille coach notably pointed to a positive first-half performance from his team, but lamented the fact that they were unable to make the most of their chances – Vitinha’s open-goal chance no doubt still fresh in his mind.
Galtier recognises, though, that his team’s performance then began to fall apart at the end start of the second half: “We conceded that really stupid goal, at this level you need to be more clear-headed. Obviously we were under pressure from Bayern, we were aware of that. We shouldn’t have been ashamed of playing long to break their press. After an hour of play, if you’re losing, it starts to become difficult. I don’t know if there’s a lesson to learn, but it’s disappointing, it’s frustrating. If we had opened the scoring, the match would have been different.”
When asked about the differences between his squad and his German counterpart’s, Galtier also pointed to the number of absences that PSG had across both legs, having had to change his defence and attack in the two games as a result.
The manager evaded the question on his future – insisting that it was too early to discuss the topic, and that he was staying focused on what remained of the season.
