Chelsea complete the signing of Alejandro Garnacho

Chelsea have officially announced the arrival of Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United in a deal worth £40 million.

The 21-year-old winger has signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea until 2032 and becomes their ninth arrival of the summer transfer window.

Garnacho was a key target for Chelsea, and he turned down offers from other clubs, including Bayern Munich and Aston Villa, to join them.

“It’s an incredible moment for my family and I to join this great club,” Garnacho told Chelsea’s official website.

“I can’t wait to get started. I watched the Club World Cup and to join the world champions is special – we’re the best team in the world!

“It’s amazing to be here and I’m very happy.”

Garnacho began his career in Spain before moving to Manchester United’s academy at age 16.

He made his senior debut in April 2022 and became a regular in the first team over the subsequent two seasons.

Despite showing promise, Garnacho faced criticism at United for inconsistency in front of goal. He scored just six goals in 36 Premier League appearances last time out.

His relationship with United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, deteriorated after he was left out of the Europa League final starting XI and was subsequently told to find a new club.

Garnacho was in attendance at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea’s 2-0 triumph over Fulham today and is expected to make his debut after the international break.

The Argentina international will have the opportunity to get one over his former employers when Chelsea visit Old Trafford in three weeks.
