Following initial reports earlier today that Chelsea were in talks with Rennes over a deal to bring in young midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, L’Équipe are now indicating that the two clubs have struck a deal over a fee in the region of €30m.
The 19-year-old, who made 26 appearances in the league for the Bretons last season, is expected to undergo his medical in the next few hours.
According to RMC Sport, the Premier League club are hoping to loan the French youth international out to Strasbourg, with whom they share an owner following BlueCo’s takeover of the Alsatian side earlier this summer. According to L’Équipe, talks had been underway for over a week, with West Ham having shown interest as well.
Since making his debut during the 2020/21 campaign, the defensive midfielder will have made over half a century of appearances for his formative club, notably playing throughout their Europa League campaign last season.
