Celta Vigo take on Cadiz in the Friday night game this week in LaLiga and it’s a good chance for the hosts to put three points on the board and turn a reasonable start to the season into a pretty strong one. It has been a very active summer in Galicia but it feels like they’ve done a decent job of rejuvenating this squad despite the loss of some important players for various reasons.

They made a big splash on deadline day by signing 22 year old striker Jorgen Strand Larsen for a reported €11m from Groningen. He should compete with fellow new boy Goncalo Paciencia for the right to partner Iago Aspas in attack. However with Paciencia injured currently and Larsen only just in, they may continue with Carles Perez in this game even if the former Barcelona man is more of a winger.

That was the recipe for success on Friday night as Celta claimed their first win of the season away to newly promoted Girona. Aspas was the scorer in a 1-0 victory and Coudet would have been happy with that performance and result. They still have the likes of Williot Swedberg, a €5m signing from Hammarby, to introduce into the fold too at some point and overall you’d have to say Celta don’t look to have been significantly weakened this summer despite losing some key men such as Brais Mendez.

As for Cadiz, the situation is altogether more concerning. It’s early days but they put in perhaps the worst team performance of the season so far in LaLiga, crashing to a 4-0 home defeat against Athletic Club. Sergio has big problems to address and it just feels like there is a lack of quality throughout this side which wasn’t really addressed in the summer transfer window.

Cadiz are the only team in the Spanish top flight yet to score a goal or pick up a point. It’s all a far cry from the euphoria on the final day of last season when they survived with a win at Alaves. They face Barcelona after this so there’s a real danger they could reach matchday 6 yet to put a point on the board unless they can find an unexpected result here.

Score Prediction: Celta Vigo 2-0 Cadiz

There seems to be a bit of a spring in the step of the Celta players right now and while they are by no means a team without flaws, they have significantly more quality than their opponents here. Cadiz look short all over the pitch and will struggle to pick themselves up to go again here just four days after a worryingly bad showing against Athletic. A solid home win looks likely.
