Castello Lukeba sheds light on his RB Leipzig future

RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba was heavily linked with a move away from the club during the summer transfer window with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Liverpool all interested in acquiring the services of the 22-year-old.

Speaking to BILD about his future, Lukeba said: “There are a lot of rumours in football. I’m a young player who wants to gain experience. It’s important to keep a cool head.” Discussing his aims for this season, he added: “I want to get back into the Champions League with RB. We’ll see what comes after that.”

The one-time capped French international is under contract with Die Roten Bullen until 2029, although he does have a release clause of €80m.

Reflecting on his progress since joining Leipzig from Lyon in 2023, Lukeba explained: “I’m still young, but I’ve already played a lot of games and gained a lot of experience. In my position in defence, I have to be loud, talk a lot – that’s just part of it.”

Lukeba has established himself as a key figure in the squad. Initially under Marco Rose, new manager Ole Werner has now gone a step further and appointed him to the team council.
